Geum Oreum in Jeju is a perfect destination for families who want to enjoy nature and create unforgettable memories together. This review covers everything you need to know about parking, local snack stands, trail difficulty, hiking tips, and what to expect when climbing with kids.
Geum Oreum is located on the western side of Jeju Island and is known for its easy access and beautiful landscapes. Here, I share our real family experience to help you plan your own Jeju oreum adventure.
Is Geum Oreum Parking Convenient?
There is a spacious parking lot right at the entrance of Geum Oreum, making parking stress-free. Even on weekends, we found it easy to find a spot without any trouble.
Along the path from the parking area to the trailhead, you’ll find several local food stalls. The “squid bread” (hanji-ppang) stand and fresh Jeju juice stands were especially popular with families and kids.
Tempted by Squid Bread and Fun at the Entrance
The squid bread stand at the entrance was an unexpected temptation. My child couldn’t resist and begged for one — a fun little episode that will make many parents smile!

There’s even a pony feeding experience right next to the entrance. We took a few moments to observe the animals, adding another unique touch to our Jeju family trip.
Trail Conditions, Hiking Time, and How Challenging Is It?
The round-trip hike up Geum Oreum usually takes about an hour. Walking slowly with kids, it took us around 30-40 minutes each way. The initial part of the trail is a gentle forest path, while the middle section gets a bit steeper.
The paths are well maintained, making it safe and manageable even for families new to hiking. However, I recommend wearing non-slip sneakers, especially for children.
The Summit View: Why Geum Oreum is So Worth It
After a little effort, the reward at the summit is stunning panoramic views over Jeju’s fields and, on clear days, Hallasan Mountain. The open sky and breeze make all the effort worthwhile.
My child proudly exclaimed, “We climbed all the way up!” The summit is a fantastic spot for memorable family photos.
Inside the Crater: Experiencing Jeju’s Unique Nature
From the top, you can descend into the inner crater — a peaceful, grassy bowl with a small pond. Walking through this area felt like discovering a secret world within Jeju’s nature.
It’s a great opportunity to slow down, explore, and let kids experience Jeju’s ecosystem up close.
Tips for Descending and Final Impressions
The descent is faster but can be a bit tricky. Kids tend to run ahead out of excitement, so it’s important to hold hands and be extra cautious on the way down.
After the hike, we enjoyed a refreshing hallabong juice from the entrance stalls. The perfect ending to a satisfying family adventure.
Geum Oreum is an ideal family-friendly hiking destination in Jeju, combining easy access, breathtaking views, and hands-on experiences for kids. If you’re planning a Jeju trip, make sure to add Geum Oreum to your itinerary!
